Lately, I've been obsessed with the idea of legacies. I hope to someday create some meaningful art that will live with my children and grandchildren long after I'm gone. Lee has the parks and cities that he designs. I dream of publishing books.
My father has built many instruments throughout his adulthood. Most recently, he decided to foray into furniture pieces. When my mother asked for a sideboard, my father assembled his vision. He started by creating a model.
And then he set to work to create the real thing.
And though he is still applying a French polish, my mom and I consider his work to be finished. It's simply gorgeous.
Perhaps my great great grandchildren will someday surface on an episode of Antiques Roadshow.

OMG Meg that is unbelievably gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI never thought I would say this but I would *love* to shake your fathers hand. His work is stunning! Chris is currently in his second woodworking class and I'm crossing my fingers hoping he sticks with the hobby cuz this homegirl needs a coffee table.
ReplyDeleteWOW! What a work of art!
ReplyDeleteWow your dad is a true craftsman....that such a pretty piece.
ReplyDeleteHaving a woodworker in the family is such an awesome thing; not only do you get to see beautiful furniture being created, but you get to steal some for yourself! (That's a little mercenary, sure, but what can you do.)
ReplyDeleteThat sideboard is gorgeous!
Oh, it's beautiful! My husband has taking a liking to woodworking--maybe one day I'll have a house full of beautiful furniture if he sticks with it. I bet your mom is thrilled with it!
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastically gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThat is an absolutely fantastic piece! Did he use gold inlay too? Your father is a very talented man.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Now that is impressive!! Your dad is quite the craftsman! Heck, I thought that model looked pretty good until I saw the real thing! So cool.
